Company Profile

Planted vases at Castle Ashby

Miles & McCulloch design, create and maintain gardens of all types. Commissions include country gardens in Oxfordshire, Northamptonshire, Berkshire, France and Greece, and town gardens in London and Oxford. Established in 1990, the company is able to draw on a wide range of qualifications and experience to provide clients with gardens that are both attractive and practical.

Patrick McCulloch worked in Scotland for the Duke of Buccleuch at Drumlanrig Castle after graduating from Edinburgh with a MA in History. He then moved to Castle Ashby in Northamptonshire as head gardener, responsible for major restorations of the Victorian formal Gardens and the 'Capability' Brown parkland. After gaining a Diploma in Landscape Architecture at Birmingham he joined Colson Stone in London, specialising in the restoration of historic landscapes.

Joanne Miles trained in Arboriculture and Horticulture at Askham Bryan College before joining Patrick at Castle Ashby, where she ultimately became head gardener. After a period at Barton Abbey in Oxfordshire, Joanne joined Miles & McCulloch full-time. She has grown annuals for award winning Chelsea Flower Show gardens and manages the long-term maintenance of several gardens in Oxfordshire. Both Joanne and Patrick hold certificates in Ecology and Conservation from Birkbeck College.
